Enroll your pet for Puppy Kindergarten classes, offered by Start Them Right Inc. in Cary or Pittsboro, North Carolina. During class, we teach dogs how to follow basic dog commands very kiindly.
This type of training is ideal for puppies from nine weeks to about four months old, depending on their maturity level. The following topics will be covered:

The Start Them Right Puppy Kindergarten & Beginner Class Manual
A manual is provided to the owners of dogs in our Puppy Kindergarten and Beginner Classes, written by Sherry Dodson, CPDT-KA. The manual not only discusses training, but also theory on why dogs do what they do. It is essential for pet owners to understand this matter.

Beginner Obedience Classes

Our Beginner Obedience class is offered for dogs five months old and up or for puppies that have taken a Puppy Kindergarten class. The topics discussed in this class are as follows:
• Body Handling & Massage Techniques
• Socialization, How Dogs Learn, & Animal Behavior
• Greeting Dogs & People |
• Review of Any Problems with Housetraining, Crate
Training, House Manners, & Chewing
• Training to Walk with a Loose Leash, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leave It with distractions. |
Advanced Obedience Class
Challenge your dogs a little more by enrolling them for Advanced Obedience Class. This class is one of the next levels after the Beginner Class, but it is not designed to prepare your dogs for obedience competition. It is done for an hour per week for eight weeks. Each owner and dog team works on a new trick, which they can perform for the group at the last class. We will train dogs by branching out into some tricks and some Rally exercises plus:
• Learning to Heel
• Longer Stays & Comes |
• Working with more Hand Signals |

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Class
Learn responsible pet ownership while your dog learns good manners. This class will last an hour per week for eight weeks. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test at the last week of the training will be eligable to receive a certificate and title of Canine Good Citizen from the American Kennel Club (AKC).
Therapy Dog Class
In collaboration with Laurie Ray, CMSW, C-ASWCM, Geriatric Care Manager, we offer comprehensive Therapy Dog Training Classes. At the completion of this class, we arrange testing by a Therapy Dogs, Inc. tester/evaluator. Upon passing the test and submitting the proper paperwork, the handler/dog teams are registered as a Therapy Dog Team. Classes are taught at an assisted living facility. Owner/dog team must have CGC certification to enter this class.
